A question asked by npbassman: Do car insurance companies know when you receive a moving violation?
When you ask for a new car insurance quote from your current or a new provider they always ask the question if you have been involved in an accident or have been pulled over recently etc, etc. My question is, do they already know this info and are they maybe testing me or do they really don’t know? I’ve had two moving violations within the past 5 years and I’m wondering how to answer these questions when I shop for insurance on a new vehicle.

They can get the information if they feel it is worth checking on. They are mostly concerned with violations that lead to points being added to your license. At the time of the application they do not really know. They can check on it.

Angelica B asked:
I’ve got insurance on my car, but I am looking to cancel it. And I would like to cancel it without really having to explain myself to the company, seeing as they will want some sort of proof that I’ve for instance changed to a different company. I will be moving out the country come autumn, and I can’t “bring the bills with me” for when I move away. It will cost too much, and no one will be driving the car anyway.

Valerie L asked: I am moving to Reno in August and will be switching car insurance companies. Wondering what people thought was the best car insurance company and if anyone know what type of cost I should expect on average. I am from NJ, so definitely hoping it will be cheaper than what I currently pay.
Thanks!

Jesse M asked: After moving into inner Atlanta because I’ve grown tired of a completely car dependent lifestyle, my auto insurance went from 70 dollars a month to nearly 160 based solely on my location.
Not only is this unfair and stupid, it seems to me to defy logic. I would think the suburban commuter who is spending lots of time in his car every day is more prone to claims than me, who barely has a reason to use my car anymore.
Ridiculous.
Clarification: We’re talking state minimum coverage here, so I wasn’t covered for theft in the first place.
