Would my car insurance company give me any problems if I get a 2nd car?

They would not have a problem with you insuring another vehicle. the only issue you may run into is if your son gets into an accident and does not have his own insurance. Some policies will insure another driver on your policy automatically if you loan your car out, but there may be age or other restrictions. I would call your insurance company and tell them you might loan your car to your son once or twice a year and ask if they will cover him if he is not named on your policy.
he would have to be insured under that policy , we had to do this with my step kids , we owned that car and insurance and they did not have insurance so they had to be insured on our policy and it was not cheap
You might want to let your insurance company know that your son will be one of the drivers for this car. In my state, insuring another vehicle with a different driver isn’t a problem as long as they know who’s going to be driving it.
Yes, they will want to know why you have 2 cars and only 1 driver listed. It would be in your best interest to add your son to your policy bc what would you do when he gets into an accident in your car and your insurance won’t cover it?

BUT THEY WILL NEED TO KNOW WHERE HE LIVES BECAUSE THEY WILL USE THAT TO HELP THEM RATE THE PREMIUM, HIS LOCATION MAY INCREASE YOUR INSURANCE RATES A LOT.
They won’t get suspicious, unless there’s an accident involving the car. Then they can deny it, unless you list your son’s address as the garaging location for the car, and list him as an operator on the policy.
If you don’t do these things, it’s insurance fraud – and if your son causes an accident, and the insurance doesn’t pay, you, the car owner, have to write out the checks.
In Texas, an insured person is 1) Named Insured 2) spouse and 3) residents of the household. If your son lives in a DIFFERENT household, than you may be creating a problem.
Be sure to discuss the different address with your insurance agent and let HIM decide how he (and your company) wants to handle the different address situation.
