na asked:
When do you have to buy car insurance? I’ve just bought my first car privately and expect to drive it home next Tuesday. However, I’m confused about the insurance. When should my insurance policy start? Does it have to be next Tuesday, too?

Just about everywhere, you need to have liability insurance to legally operate a motor vehicle. There is no provision for “getting the car home”… it’s your responsibility to have the insurance at the time you’re driving.
Before you can put a tag on it and drive it legally, you will have to put insurance on the car.
well you need insurance to legally drive a car… its not too hard to figure out
Legally to put the car on the road, you have to have insurance. Since this is your first car, i’m assuming you don’t already have an existing car insurance. Therefore, you need to apply for insurance on or before the time you pick up the car.
If you have the VIN, you can call an agent or use one of the “instant” web sites to get coveage bound for the day you need to drive it home. Be sure to have coverage in place before you drive it; as sure as you don’t have it, you’ll need it!
You legally neeed insurance to drive the car. I would contact your current insurance providor (assuming you have one), and explain your situation. I’m sure they can work out some sort of plan that will cover you on your drive home
Get it as soon as possible so your car is covered in case of accident. Make sure that you buy the insurance that covers you as well. You policy will start the moment you make the payment. As soon as the company gets the money and you get a papers, you are covered.
The best way is to get it the moment you get your car. Make sure you have an insurance before you travel. coverage starts the moment you pay and is immediate.
autoinsurance.undonet.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
well this really depends on many factors including the vehicle, mileage, your credit score, whether you have installed safety and anti theft devices in your vehicle, etc. It would also help to lower your premium if you have taken any defensive driving courses. Honestly since you are pretty young and probably have been driving for less than 2 years, your insurance rate might be pretty high. You can speak with the insurance agent though and see if there are any discounts for having a clean driving records of even being a student(if you are still in college). chances are though like i mentioned that you’ll still end up paying quite a bit. it gets better as you get older though and you can negotiate a better insurance policy once you have some mileage behind the wheel.
good luck and drive safely
For car insurance the best way to get a great quote is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make certain that you compare similar options with the same deductibles, auto type, location, etc so that all things are a good comparison.
What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at since they have top name insurers and can give several quotes on auto insurance polices.
