Let’s say you buy a car from the dealership, you have what, 24 or 48 hours to get insurance correct? I heard that you have legal coverage from the state for the first 48 hours or so, is this correct?
Or must you have coverage intently after buying the car?

IF YOU BUY FROM A DEALERSHIP THEY PROBABLY WON’T LET YOU PULL OFF THE LOT WITHOUT INSURANCE. FROM A PRIVATE SELLER, YOU HAVE UNTIL YOU GET IT REGISTERED. NO DMV WILL LET YOU REGISTER A CAR WITHOUT INSURANCE.,
when you buy from dealer he must have insurance number for that car/usually its faxed over from new owners insurance co/he cannot issue you temp tag without it/private sale you must have insurance when you reg the car/in any event you cannot put the wheels on public roads unless it has ins on it
You have to have insurance BEFORE you purchase the vehicle unless you already have your own insurance policy then coverage might extend for about 5-14 days (but call your insurance company to find out the exact time line that coverage will extend from your existing policy).
They ONLY way the dealership would allow you to take the vehicle before you have your own insurance is if they leave the dealership tags/ plates on it and they cover you under the dealership insurance to go purchase a personal automobile insurance policy.
The state will not provide coverage, so that is incorrect.
