I know in the UK you definately need insurance, all the time, no matter what the situation. It’s incase you have an accident, even if you don’t drive very often. Driving in the UK without insurance is illegal.

Yes you have to have car insurance on any car you have on the road, it’s the law.
If you drive, you need insurance coverage. Whether you buy it, or your parents cover you on their policy is between you and them. But you MUST be covered.
Yep, as soon as you sit behind the wheel and get out on the roads you need insurance.
Without it, if you caused an accident you could be chased privately for *a lot* of money, get points on your license and if UK based, you may even lose your license and have to re-sit your test again.
my kids were covered under my policy when they drove my car. check with your insurer and see if that isn’t so.
Most insurance companies require you to be listed on your parents policy. Them being in the vehicle does not constitute being covered. In case of an accident, you would be an uninsued driver and your parents would get ticketed for allowing an uninsured driver to operate the vehicle. The insurance would not be required to pay for the costs.
If you take the car on the road, it has to have insurance. If you don’t want to get insurance in your own name because of the expense (really expensive for a teenager), have your parents put the car on their insurance (full coverage) that way if you damage the car, the insurance company will pay. Just be sure they don’t put you as an excluded driver, if they do the ins co. will not pay anything if you damage the car.
