How old do you have to be to get your own car insurance?

I did the same thing as your mum said, but my brother already had it and I got a deal and only pay $70 a month and it was normally $150.
You have to talk to every place and get the best deal, thats what i did!
look find a friend you can trust and can trust you too. that’s being driving for a long time to add you from s/he’s insurance.
and it’s gonna cost you less price. you could do it at age 18 but it’s gonna cost you a lot of money and you don’t want that.
just find that person and explain them your situations. that’s it
You can get your own insurance. I highly recommend you do. For one, it is illegal to drive a car with no insurance. Not to mention if you get in an accident you have no coverage to cover any damages. If you get your own policy you can begin to build a good driving record with the company and you will get cheaper rates over time. My parents got me my own policy when I started driving and it was one of the best things they did for me.
You need to be able to sign a contract, so 18yo is the min.
And let your Mom know that SHE is financially responsible for you as a driver until you turn 18. If you are involved in an accident, Mom will get the bills and be dragged into court.
Then start negotiating with her from there. Even if you had to split the bill 50/50 you’ll be way ahead – and safe and legal.

You can get your own insurance & get it now. You only have to get insurance on the cars you own & if you only own one, then insure just one. If the car is in your name, your parents can’t insure it anyway, they can’t insure something they don’t own. Your parents need to get their own insurance ASAP because it is illegal & if they have an at fault accident, they will be paying all the damages to the other party out of their own pockets & that could take years to pay. You sound like a very responsible young person. Keep up the good work & you will go far in life.
