I pay for my geico car insurance every six months because I save some money instead of paying monthly. Here is a thing I am going to out of US for 3 months and I do not need insure my car however I already paid for the 6 months.

Contact the insurer. You may be able to cancel the policy and reinstate it upon your return. You’d have to have solid evidence that you were not in the country, as they look at a lapse in insurance a as a big thing, and may not be willing to give you the same deal on your policy.
However, if it’s not too much of a financial burden, it might be worth your while to keep it. Something strange might happen, like someone stealing your car and getting into an accident, and in some states the owner is held responsible.
Geico will not cancel your insurance unless you show proof that you have surrendered your plates to the DMV. There Is 2 things you can do.The first is you take your plates off the car (You have to take it off the street, though)take them to your local DMV and tell them you wish to store them as you’ll be away on business for approximately 3 months. They will give you a receipt which you will fax to Geico as proof and they will cancel your policy. Or, you can continue to pay for everything IE Insurance-Plates, etc. As far as the refund is concerned they will send you a portion of It that is outstanding If as you say you pay in 3 month increments.I believe you have to ask. But, If you plan on coming back and getting your plates again, you will need Insurance to do that. So, you have to decide.
Call Geico, cancel it and get a refund
For car insurance the quick method to get a free quote is do a car policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage amounts, you can get an fast quote to compare against others. Use the same zip code, car make/model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get an apples to apples comparison. To get easy auto quotes, go to and you can compare the major auto insurance companies.
Yes you can cancel your policy, by notifying them in writing. You do NOT get all the money back – there’s a short rate cancellation charge, AND a cancellation fee when allowed by the state. The short rate is about a month’s premium. The cancellation fee varies by state, but is typically $50.
Also, a good resource is this one…
All the best to you.
