Do I have to wait for my current car insurance to expire before switching to another?

Dantes asked:
(California) I’m currently with Progressive and would like to switch to Wawanesa car insurance. However I have Progressive until July 08 and I have already paid my premium for this period. If I wanted to switch to Wawanesa immediately, would I forfeit my Progressive coverage or would the two companies negotiate the remainder of my term with Progressive. Any chance Progressive could refund the remainder of my term with them?

Thanks!

depends on company but when i did this. i paid for new and asked for refund when i cancelled the old.
don’t get all back just what hasn’t been used yet.
No, you don’t have to wait. Get your new policy started the call and cancel the old policy.
You may get a refund but you’ll probly have to be tough with them.
I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure you can just switch it out.
