I got my license 2 weeks ago and I am getting a car this week. What insurance company would you recommend that I go with? Progressive, Gieco or AIG. If you have any others, feel free to throw it out there.

I hear mercury’s insurance is really really cheap (like $80 a month which is not bad at all).
But it really depends on you. You would have to ask your self “am I a good driver? do I pay attention? do I think I will get into a car crash someday?” If you think your a very good driver, then go with mercury because its going to save you tons of money, and you need money for gas since the gas price is servilely rising.
BUT If you think your a terrible driver and think that you will get into a car crash one day, then you should go with insurance companies like State Farm. Sure, its expensive, but when you get into a car crash, your going to be very very happy that State Farm saved your ***.
Remember, Its all about you. And make sure you think about the future. Is the gas prices going to be more expensive? Are there many bad drivers around you? Is your town safe?
I suggest you shop around. Progressive’s commercials about doing the shopping for you is somewhat illegal, so please do the shopping yourself. Call every insurance company to get the best deal. If you can’t, go ahead to a website that you can post your information on, like E-surance.com, and people will send you a personalized quote. If you just now got a license, that would make you under 25, which will make your insurance a bit higher. Also if you’re male, it will be higher. If it’s an expensive car with full coverage (meaning you’re totally covered, and in the case of a totalled car, you get a grand-spanking new one), its gonna be higher. If you have bad credit, it will be higher. There are a lot of things to consider.
I know for a fact, State Farm, Allstate, and other quality insurance companies will not insure people with 3 or more at-fault accidents or tickets WITHIN THE HOUSEHOLD, and will not insure you if you have a DUI IN THE HOUSEHOLD. Your household counts. If you live with a relative that has a DUI, be sure to know that you will be a “high-risk” case and cannot be insured by State Farm, etc, in which case, go with Safe Auto or Geico.
Hope this helps!
I use Liberty Mutual in New York and they’re great. Allstate is also awesome- all my friends use them. I only use Liberty Mutual because my family has been using them since day 1.
My dad’s car got stolen 3 times in one year, and Liberty Mutual took care of all those three incidents with no issues on the side.
Don’t go with Geico- I hear they ****.
For car insurance the best way to get a fantastic quote is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you choose similar policies with the same deductibles, auto model, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison.
What I most often recommend is an internet comparison quote at since they have lots of insurers and can give multiple quotes on auto insurance polices.
