I am 22 and I will be getting my first car soon. It is used and in good condition. I am wanting to put my mother on the insurance as well so we can both drive the car and be covered.

an insurance agent would. you’ll need to tell them the make and model of the car, age, how old the car is, mileage, driving record, and location, as well as what type of policy you want.
go to progressive.com website. they will scour a lot of companies and give you a report.
Not enough information. The cost of insurance depends not only on your age, but also on the area you live in, the kind of car it is, your driving record and so on.
An insurance on a used Mercedes will be more than on a used Ford, right? If you live in rural area, the cost is MUCH less than in downtown New York City…
Most insurance companies will gladly give you a free estimate. Just call several companies, give them all the info, and they’ll tell you.
You are the one that raises the cost unless your mother is over 65. Can you get the deduction because you will not be driving it to work or school? Have you taken defensive driving and does your insurance company offer a discount for it? The plainer the car, the lower the insurance cost; the hotter, the higher.
On a 2002 Eddie Bauer Expedition not driven to work or school with a 64 yo driver with impecible record and defensive driving discount paid before the deadline due: $830/year from Farmers. As much as $1800 from competitors. I would expect you to get quotes ranging from 1600 to 3200 a year. Get a reasonable idea of the car you want with a specific example (like a 2 year old Ford Escort) and get estimates from online services and major companies (State Farm, Progressive) If your mother is over 50, you might get a good quote from AARP even with membership. Try AAA. After you have done one quote, you will know what you need to have on hand to answer questions.
