Can my car insurance cover the damage I did to my neighboor’s car?

PAGRO asked:
I made a dent to his car, with my door.
We spoke, and I asked him to get an estimate.
It is 600 dollars. If my insurance pays for it, what would happen to my payments? how much are they expected to change?
I am in NY State.

How do I find out if NY state has a threshold for claims in order not to be considered chargeable?.
Also, if there is such a limit of $1000. Do I pay my deductible to fix the other’s person car?

all if you had full coverage
What is your deductible? If you have to pay the first $500 or $1,000, you are better off paying the $600 yourself and not marring your record with the insurance company.
Yes but you have to pay your deductable first.
It all depends on your insurance. Depending on who you have, you put a claim in, and they can, and sometime’s will raise your insurance premium. Depends on if you’ve had any claims in the past as well. For your sake, that $600 is better off being paid out of your pocket, instead of the insurance companies. Cause if they pay it, it probably will go up some. And if you change companie’s, they have a way of finding out if you’ve had any claims in the past, which could get you a higher premium
Yes, it would be covered under your property damage liability section.
Nothing happens to your current payments. Any accident surcharge would kick in when your policy renews. This would count as an at-fault accident against you, HOWEVER, most states have a “threshhold” of coverage, where if the damage is under that amount, like $1,000, then the accident is NOT surchargable.
You’ll have to ask your agent if your state has a threshhold, and if so, what it is. Don’t forget to add in three days of rental car, for while his car is in the shop.
