Basically I was in a car wreck, I filed a claim against the other driver’s insurance company, they agreed to pay me the face value of the car instead of repairing my vehicle. Today they called and are talking about wanting to pick up the car and the title for my car in exchange for the payment.. Is this normal? They never mentioned that I would have to give them my car.

I have been thinking of “loaning” my car (which I own) to my 87 year old father. I would then lease a vehicle for myself. Then at the end of the lease period (let’s say 3 years) if he is no longer driving, the car returns to me. Can he purchase auto insurance on himself and the car or does it fall upon me and my policy? My friends home got broken into and car keys were stolen and with that stole the vehicle. The vehicle only had liability insurance. Now both homeowners and auto insurance are telling them that they won’t pay for that loss. Is this correct in any way? The vehicle has a value of $7K. Would obtaining an attorney be helpful?

After driving for nearly 14 years without an accident or traffic ticket, I end up getting two traffic tickets this summer. I was able to get one dismissed by going to traffic school, but the other one stays on my record for the next few years.

My insurance agent told me that my rates will go up $600 per year for the next 3 years because of the ticket.

Seeing that I pay about $1,400 each year for auto insurance (I bought a new car last year), the idea that my rates would jump over 40% because of one traffic citation seems a bit ridiculous.

If any of you have had your insurance rates increase because of a single traffic ticket, how much has your insurance increased?

By the way… If you answer, please say which state you live in. I live in California, so my rates are higher than most of the country.
